PROFILEHe Anjing is an artist whose practice explores how time transforms disappearance into new forms of life. Working across painting, Chinese aesthetics, and art history, he investigates landscape, materiality, memory, and the persistence of relationships after their original forms have dissolved.
His paintings are informed by long-term research into Chinese visual culture while remaining independent from academic writing. Rather than illustrating history, his work asks how the visible world continues to grow through time.
He is currently a Visiting Scholar at Harvard University and an Associate Professor at the University of Science and Technology Beijing.

Philosophy of art
Genuine “quiet contemplation” may be one of the paths by which sages, scholars, or artists attain a state of “emptiness.” Of course, taking up the brush in pursuit of a subtle equilibrium is by no means incompatible with this. In the act of creation, the painter distances himself from his own conscious will, seeking instead to dance with the very energies that brought the world into being.
